The question on everyone’s mind after watching the latest Disney/Pixar movie is- “What happened to 22?” Now, that is an excellent question. The possibilities are obviously endless. But, if we dive into the movie, maybe we can guess.

22 is a soul/blip from the Great Before. The Great Before is a place where would be souls develop their personality, and get ready for life on earth. 22 has spent centuries refusing to embrace the concept of life. She has had many mentors trying to help. Abraham Lincoln, Gandhi, Mohammed Ali, and Marie Antionette all tried and failed. 22 even made Mother Theresa cry.

22 gets matched with Joe; a guy who escaped from the Great Beyond to the Great Before. All Joe wants to do is get back to his body that’s on earth in a coma. Him and 22 make a pact that if Joe can help find her spark, she’ll give him her earth pass.

After a couple of mishaps, both Joe and 22 end up back on earth. However, 22 is in Joe’s body, and Joe is in the body of a therapy cat. Now 22 gets to experience life through Joe’s eyes. 22 soon discovers all the wonderful things about earth, and what sparks her. She finds that she likes dancing, mimicking Joe, annoying others, pizza, shushing people, music, and lollipops. With this knowledge, there are many things 22 could possibly be at the end of the movie.

22 could end up being a mime or a librarian. She could be a chef or a candy maker. Pete Docter, the writer and producer of the movie had this to say. “It’s unclear, exactly, what happens to 22- who she becomes, if she and Joe ever meet up again. But that was entirely by design.”
