‘We’re All In This Together’ Becomes Unofficial COVID 2020 Mantra

In 2006, High School Musical debuted and became a fast sensation, uniting teeny boppers and getting parents hooked on the lyrics of every-single-song.

Today, one of those songs rises above the rest as an unofficial mantra of the global COVID pandemic: ‘We’re All in This Together’!

To add to the spirit of togetherness, Disney debuted a Disney Family Singalong in April on ABC and we were gifted with a remake of the original ‘We’re All in This Together’ from Kenny and friends- singers from a variety of iterations of the High School Musical franchise ensuring us that we are, in fact, in this together.

We even have some timely lyrics, reminding us to do the right thing while we weather this storm together, “Together, we’re there for each other every time/ Together together come on let’s do this right.” This song goes on to tell us, “we make each other strong”, and that if we stand hand in hand (metaphorically due to social distancing), we can reach our dreams!

The fun part is that the world is joining in on the fun. While this song is appropriate for everyone as we come together, it is being used by many schools to reassure students that the school family misses them while traversing these challenging times. Check out the teachers at these schools putting together videos for their students when they found out that school would not resume in person:

These are just a small few of the many school videos you will find from a quick search in YouTube. The thing that stands out most is how much these teachers adore their students.

This spring has been so hard on everyone and children have suffered in so many unprecedented ways since March. One thing we know is that a sense of normalcy is beneficial to young minds. This song has become a mantra from educators and students around the world- assuring kids that they are loved and missed and that we all look forward to the days when students can return to classrooms.

Until then, we’re all in this together!

By the way, if you haven’t seen this fan favorite, you can see the whole series on Disney+, streaming now!

With four children of my own, I know what the magic of Disney means to families. My babies adore Disney, and I am their supplier!! Sharing in the wonder and joy of Disney brings me closer to friends and family and gives me hope - if only we could all learn to love like Belle, forgive like Cinderella, have confidence like Tiana, be brave like Merida, be persistent like Snow, think outside the box like Ariel, stand up for what we want like Jasmine, and be trusting of the goodness in humanity like Rapunzel- this world we live in can be as magical as any Disney movie. This is the world I imagine that Walt Disney wanted- one where we could see a little bit of ourselves in his world in order to make our world a more magical place.
