The ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Reboot Has Been Officially Cancelled

On Wednesday, actress Hilary Duff announced that the highly anticipated Lizzie McGuire reboot has been canceled by Disney+.

Duff, who played Lizzie McGuire in the early 2000’s Disney Channel show posted a heartfelt goodbye to her beloved character on her Instagram page.

In her emotional post, Duff expressed ” I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves.”

A Disney spokesperson echoed Duff’s statement “Lizzie McGuire’s fans have high expectations for any new stories. Unless and until we are confident we can meet those expectations, we’ve decided to hold off and today, we informed the cast’s representatives that we are not moving forward with the planned series.”

The reboot had been in the works for Disney+ since 2019 but faced numerous setbacks and challenges that just couldn’t be overcome, including the firing of creator and revival showrunner Terri Minsky.

The news comes as a surprise and disappointment to fans. There is good news, as the show and its film are available to stream on Disney+.
