Sad moments in a Disney movie are always a guarantee. It’s what helps keep the viewer invested all the way to the end. A death of a character we’ve grown attached to, is always heartbreaking. But, what are some of the saddest moments in Disney movie history?

Contents
Bambi’s Mom (Bambi)Hector (Coco)Han Solo (Star Wars)Wilden Lightfoot (Onward)Tadashi (Big Hero 6)Black Widow (Avengers: Endgame)Ray (Princess and the Frog)Bing Bong (Inside Out)Yondu (Mary Poppins *just kidding* Guardians of the Galaxy)Ellie (Up)Mufasa (Lion King)Tony Stark (Avengers: Endgame)

Here is our top 12 sad moments (in no particular order)….

Bambi’s Mom (Bambi)

Of course Bambi’s mom is going to make the list. Since 1942, it is still regarded as one of the most shocking moments in a Disney movie.

Hector (Coco)

We first meet Hector in the afterlife. He seems like a fun loving goofball that just wants to be remembered. That is, of course, until we learn his backstory. One that he wasn’t even fully aware of.

Han Solo (Star Wars)

Han was everybody’s favorite smuggler, and the best pilot we knew. We all loved going on adventures with him and Chewy. He has been with us since 1977. But sadly, his own son took him away in 2015.

Wilden Lightfoot (Onward)

Losing one, or both, parents in a Disney movie is quite common. However, getting one back for 24 hours is not. We were all so excited for Ian and Barley, that we forgot that they’d have to say goodbye again.

Tadashi (Big Hero 6)

Tadashi was everyone’s favorite big brother and robotics nerd. He was very much the type of person you’d expect to run into a burning building to save someone.

Black Widow (Avengers: Endgame)

Black Widow met her untimely death when she sacrificed herself on Vormir. That way, her best friend Hawkeye could have a chance of seeing his family again.

Ray (Princess and the Frog)

sad moments

Ray flew into our hearts back in 2009. This worn-down, Lousiana firefly living in the Bayou’s of New Orleans.

Bing Bong (Inside Out)

sad moments

Everyone has had an imaginary friend at some point. If you haven’t, I’m sure you could borrow Riley’s. Bing Bong was the truest friend. Even up to the very end. “Take her to the moon for me, okay?”

Yondu (Mary Poppins *just kidding* Guardians of the Galaxy)

sad moments

Yondu was the leader of a group of Ravagers, and the adoptive father of Star Lord. At the end of the movie, he sacrificed his spacesuit (and his own life) to save Quill. “He may have been your father, boy, but he wasn’t your daddy. I’m sorry, I didn’t do none of it right. I’m damn lucky you’re my boy”.

Ellie (Up)

sad moments

Not many love stories can compete with Carl and Ellie’s. But Disney has to go and add real life elements to their movies. This is one of the saddest moments in the Disneyverse.

Mufasa (Lion King)

sad moments

Mufasa, the leader of Pride Rock, is the envy of some in his pride. Mostly, his brother Scar, who ultimately kills him.

Tony Stark (Avengers: Endgame)

sad moments

Tony was, arguably, everyone’s favorite superhero. He was the one that had to activate the gauntlet, in order to save the world. And sadly, sacrificing himself in the process.
