Even in this time of social isolation, Disney has reminded us that we are not alone with a song that speaks volume during this difficult time.
“I Am With You”, penned by award-winning lyricists Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez brings to light emotions some of us might be facing. The song and corresponding video concerns Olaf’s feeling of loneliness and his subsequent letter writing to those he misses.
Early this week, Disney shared the video on their social media platforms with the following caption:
Wherever you may be, here’s a special message from Olaf’s home to yours. “I Am With You” Music and Lyrics Written at Home by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Performed at Home by Josh Gad. Directed at Home by Dan Abraham. #AtHomeWithOlaf #DisneyMagicMoments
The video begins with a view of an empty Arendelle, paralleling what the majority of the streets in our world look like. Olaf, upset by the lack of normal hustle and bustle decides to connect with those he misses by writing. Olaf literally puts himself into his letter by using one of his coal buttons as a writing utensil to relay his feelings on paper.
The video also features a montage of iconic and heartwarming Disney movie moments. From Alice in Wonderland, Lion King, Lilo & Stitch, and Moana, viewers will surely recognize and connect to these icon scenes.
Wind spirit Gale even makes an appearance, acting as a delivery service for the message. The way the video ends, it seems as if Olaf’s letter was written directly for those watching. Olaf even breaks the fourth wall by gazing happily at the viewer as the screen fades to black.
Disney has also released a series of shorts starring the charismatic snowman entitled “At Home With Olaf”. Each short follows Olaf and his antics around the Frozen world. You can access a playlist of these shorts here.
Even in the darkest of times, it is important to remember that there’s a great big beautiful tomorrow shining at the end of everyday.
