Now we can all have something to stare at instead of stalking for new “The Mandalorian” episodes or just scrolling though funny “The Child” posts on the internet. The toys, clothing, plush and other accessories will be available at Disney Store, shopDisney, and Disney Parks. On shopDisney today, the selections are just various t-shirts, cups, a tote, and cell phone case that all have the same image on them (some are customizable by color), and this was probably just to get SOMETHING on the shelves (or on the site in this case), and we can all be assured more variety will come.
Other apparel and accessories featuring the yet unnamed creature will also eventually be available as well through Macy’s, Target, Kohl’s, Amazon, Zazzle, Hot Topic and Box Lunch.
Why wasn’t there wasn’t anything for us to throw our money at when the series launched? Spoilers, of course! Director Jon Favreau told “Entertainment Tonight” that, “I have to thank Disney and Lucasfilm, because the way the cat usually gets out of the bag with that stuff is merchandising and toy catalogs and things like that. So they really back us up.”
He continued, “That requires a lot of restraint from the people who are footing the bill, saying they’re gonna hold back on certain things so that the public doesn’t know ahead of time. Part of that was holding back on some of the merchandise and holding back on some of the characters.” But now that the cat, or midichlorian, is out of the bag, get ready to spend all your money on everything emblazoned with the adorable frog-snacking, big-eared, wide-eyed, 50 year old baby.
The most obvious things fans are pointing out in this first round of merch today is the absence of a plush, and while we know they are coming, you can always feel free to give some love to a Porg while you wait… because after all, Porgs are STILL adorable even if they have been dethroned as the cutest in the galaxy.
