Helmed by award-winning Irish director Peter Foott, Disney+ will soon boast a new Halloween comedy with it’s original film, SPOOKED. Known best for his comedy film, The Young Offenders, Foott will join a list of directors who will be debuting their film to Disney+, as the streaming service continues to offer new, original content to their platform.
The details of the film are relatively unknown including a release date, but the synopsis is capturing; The story of course takes place on Halloween night. However, something goes wrong when a group of trick-or-treaters somehow are transformed into the characters of whatever costumes they are wearing.
With the bar set so high for Halloween Disney films, it will be interesting to see how SPOOKED manages the expectations. For most Disney fans (and even non-Disney fans), their is one film that you watch every single Halloween, Hocus Pocus. The 1993 Halloween-set family film was initially a flop for Disney, but it could have had something to do with its July release date during Jurassic Park’s reign in theaters. In recent years, Hocus Pocus has become a huge hit on home video and during Freeform’s “31 Nights of Halloween” television event. (Cinemablend.com)
The development of a ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ was announced with Director Adam Shankman (Hairspray) attached to the project. The project had expectations of a 2020 release but have since been pushed back due to Covid-19. Hopefully, we will have two new Halloween themed comedies to enjoy this time next year with SPOOKED and Hocus Pocus 2.
