Is Elsa going to have a girlfriend in Frozen 2? A new character has sparked a huge theory.

Just Disney
The trailer for Frozen 2 features two new characters but who are they? Fans have several theories about their identity including the possibility that the girl will end up being Elsa's girlfriend.

The Frozen 2 trailer dropped yesterday and if you haven't watched it, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE? There's drama, there's darkness, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf are there but without the fun and kooky japes of the first movie. Elsa is back too and most importantly of all… people think she might finally be about to get a girlfriend.

For years now, fans have been campaigning to #GiveElsaAGirlfriend and make her the first lesbian Disney Princess (well, Queen, really). Back in 2018, director Jennifer Lee revealed that the fan campaign was something that they've had "tons of conversations about" and that Disney is being “conscientious” with the story but so far, nothing has been teased or confirmed.

Despite the lack of confirmation and the fact that nothing was given away in that very very dark and very very tense new trailer, the internet is still very much on board with Elsa becoming an LGBTQ+ icon and fans are now speculating that their dreams might be about to come true – and it's all to do with one particular new character in the trailer that we've never seen before.

Does Elsa have a girlfriend in Frozen 2?

Around 1 minute 20 seconds into the trailer, we catch a glimpse of a girl with brown hair, surrounded by leaves before a guy with blonde hair comes shooting out from the ground. She's a brand new character and we know nothing else about her (it seems like she has powers?) but fans are speculating that she could be Elsa's new love interest.

That, along with the announcement that Evan Rachel Wood would be voicing a new character in the sequel, that tiny part of the trailer has sent fans spiralling into sleuth mode.
