Icon Regis Philbin Dies at 88

Regis Philbin, who was most known for hosting Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, passed away on Friday, July 24th, of natural causes. He was 88.

The actor, producer, and host had an extensive filmography including work with Walt Disney Pictures. He hosted the televised Disney Parks Christmas Parade in the Magic Kingdom from 1991 to 2008. Additionally, he voiced characters in Lilo & Stitch: The Series as well as the Hercules television show.

Philbin’s work was emulated in the Disney attraction Who Wants to Be A Millionaire- Play It! The game show attraction was located in Disney- MGM Studios (now Hollywood Studios) and Disney California Adventure. Although Philbin didn’t host the attraction, cast members did their best to emulate his mannerisms from the televised version. Play It! ran from April 7th, 2001 to August 19th, 2006 in Orlando and from September 14th, 2001 to August 20th, 2004.

Philbin holds the Guinness World Record for the most hours on U.S. television with more than 16,700 hours on air. His over 60 year career will not be forgotten by his legions of fans all around the world. He was named a Disney Legend in 2011 at the D23 Expo.

He is survived by his daughters J.J. and Joanna whom he had with his wife of 50 years Joy. Philbin also had daughter Amy and son Daniel (who passed in 2014) with his first wife Catherine Faylen.
