With Covid – 19, the creators of “Raya and the Last Dragon” had a bunch of firsts. It’s the first Disney Animation film created remotely due to the pandemic. Production started in March just as things were shutting down. Therefore, creators had to find new ways of working from home. They used Zoom and equipment at home to create what the director calls “the most beautiful animated film” he’s ever seen.
The film is the first Disney movie inspired by Southeast Asia. Then, Kelly Marie Tran, one of the movie’s stars, is the first Southeast Asian actress to lead a Disney film. Film makers did research to make sure that they accurately celebrate the representation that the movie presents.
“Raya and the Last Dragon” is a movie about Raya, the village Chief’s daughter. When their village, Kumandra, is threatened by an evil force, she must travel to find the last dragon, to help her country. The film is currently set to be released March 12, 2021.
