At the end of last week, guests riding EPCOT’s Living With the Land experienced the ride in a way the majority of guests have never experienced before. During the ride, the boat started to slowly move backwards. The incident was captured on video and shared on Twitter.
The malfunction was the result of the ride being emergency stopped. When this happens, the water jets that make the boats move forward are shut off. This then causes the ride to move backwards as there is now nothing moving them along the tracks.
Don’t worry if you feel you’ve missed out, the ride looks pretty much the same as it does when it’s moving forward. The only difference is the direction of movement.
Another thing that the video showed was the safety measures Disney implemented to keep guests and Cast Members safe when visiting the Parks. In the video, guests are seen wearing face masks and the rows of seats are separated by partitions. Every other row is also blocked off to ensure social distancing.
