Best known for his scores and songs on various Disney animated films, Alan Menken has joined rarefied air achieving the ‘EGOT’ after his Daytime Emmy win on Sunday. Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater took home ‘Best Original Song in a Children’s, Young Adult or Animated Program‘ with “Waiting in the Wings” from Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventures. With his Emmy win, he joined a list of only 16 people who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony award (E.G.O.T).
Alan Menken has taken part in the creation of some of your favorite Disney movies and has quiet the trophy shelf to prove it; 8 Oscar wins, 11 Grammy awards, 1 Tony and 1 Emmy. If you didn’t know at the time, you certainly learned about the pairing of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman from numerous Disney documentaries and they deserved the recognition. Prior to Ashman’s death in 1991, the duo brought to life some of the most notable songs in Disney history including Kiss the Girl, Under The Sea, Beauty and the Beast, Be Our Guest, Belle, A Whole New World and A Friend Like Me.
