90s kids rejoice! ‘Cinderella’ with Brandy is coming to Disney Plus! There have been many, many adaptations of the classic Cinderella tale. But none quite like this.
We’ll be taking a step back into 1997. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella was a made-for-tv movie adaptation of the television musical from 1957. This version has stars like Brandy (Cinderella), Whitney Houston (Fairy Godmother), and Whoopi Goldberg (The Queen). The classic musical theatre from these stars infuse pop and R&B throughout their songs.
The movie was nominated for seven Emmys when it originally aired. At the time, Brandy, when being interviewed by the LA Times, had this to say: “You had a young African American lady with braids in her hair as Cinderella. Just that alone was brilliant. Everyone was multicultural. You could just see the differences of humanity reflected in this entire cast, and I think if someone really believed in an idea like that in today’s time that it could definitely work. It worked then. I think it’s something we all want to see again.”
Brandy hopped on Twitter yesterday to let everyone know that “It’s Possible”! Cinderella will be streaming soon!
If you haven’t seen it, you’re definitely in for a treat! Get ready! Cinderella with Brandy will be here February 12th! In the meantime, here’s a little snippet of what’s waiting for you!
