We recently announced that Disney is cancelling Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party this year. Unfortunately, this puts a damper on many guests holiday plans. However, we’ve imagined what it would be like to go the party this year, and it’s very refreshing.
You walk onto Main Street U.S.A. The castle is hung with icicles, lighting your way. You spin around, and sigh a breath of relief. There’s nobody else around. You get to walk through the decorated park, enjoying the scenery. You don’t have to stop every 3 seconds because someone just walked out in front of you, no strollers are hitting your toes, and you don’t have to strain to hear music over the crowd.
You look down at your party schedule, and decide you’d like to do a character meet and greet. Mickey and Minnie are in Fantasyland. There’s no line, so you walk up to them, and take your pictures. Because there’s no one else in the park, you get to spend as much time as you want getting the perfect photo.
Your stomach starts to rumble, so you take a stroll around the park, collecting free cookies and treats from all of the stands. You even get the Peppermint Chip Cookie, a coveted treat you usually have to wait 30+ minutes for.
You look down at your watch, and realize it’s time for the Once Upon a Christmas parade. There’s no need to worry about waiting 40 minutes in the perfect spot, worried someone else will take it. Instead, you walk right up to Main Street, and watch Santa, Mickey, and friends have a blast performing just for you. You enjoy the snowfall, peacefully falling as you stand there in quiet enjoyment.
Next, you decide to go enjoy some of your favorite rides while there are no crowds. You take a ride on the Jingle Cruise, full of Christmas puns. Then, you go over to the Tomorrowland Speedway, and enjoy driving past all of the lights. Because you’re by yourself, you get to go on Tomorrowland Speedway 4 times in a row. You have a blast.
Finally, it’s time to enjoy the fireworks before you head home. No crowd means you can watch from wherever you’d like. You walk up to the area in front of the castle. There are no markers or ropes blocking where you can stand, so you stand right in the middle of the street. It’s the perfect ending to a perfect Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
Even though the parties are cancelled this year, it’s still nice to imagine what they’d be like in a Covid era. Hopefully they return next year, but until then, we can dream. What would you do at MVMCP if you were the only one there?
