Disneyland has been closed for 10 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic and there is no timeline as to when the park will reopen. Southern California, where the park is located, has been experiencing a sharp surge of cases causing a more unpredictable timetable for reopening. Because of the extended closure, Disney Parks has announced that they will be ending the popular Annual Pass Program for Disneyland.
In a statement posted by Disney Parks, Disneyland’s President Ken Potrock explained why the decision was made.
The Annual Pass Program had been around for nearly 40 years. Passholders were sent an email informing them of the change. Refunds will be given automatically within the next few days to passholders who paid for days beyond the parks’ closure on March 14th, 2020.
Passholders who had Annual Passes active as of March 14th, 2020 will still get applicable discounts at select locations in Downtown Disney. Additionally, Passholders will receive a 30% discount on select merchandise at certain Downtown Disney locations between January 18th and February 25th, 2021.
Potrock stressed, “I know that sunsetting the Annual Passport program will be disappointing to many of our Passholders who are just as anxious as we are to reopen our gates and welcome Guests back when the time is right.”
The company will provide a replacement for the Annual Passholder program but the program is not expected to be implemented until Disneyland can once again welcome Guests at least at a limited capacity.
