All New Marvel Coming To Disney+ In 2021

On New Years Eve in 2009, a vote occurred and the merger was approved rolling the powerful Marvel franchise into the Disney universe. 11 years later, the behemoth partnership is flourishing and has made giant strides with the addition of the Disney+ streaming service which now holds a majority of the Marvel catalog, pending a few films and enterprises with expiring contracts elsewhere.

In addition to the extensive and highly valuable archive of films, Marvel and Disney+ have a slew of new films, series and documentaries coming to Disney+ in the new year including the highly promoted WandaVision among others. Let’s take a look at the full list of what’s coming to Disney+ in 2021 for the Marvel Universe.

Marvel Studios: Legends – Jan 8th

Marvel Studios: Legends is an upcoming American streaming television series created for Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics characters that appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The series showcases individual characters each episode, highlighting some of their iconic moments from the MCU.

In anticipation of WandaVision being released on January 15th, the first two highlighted characters will be Wanda Maximoff and Vision on January 8th when the series premieres. Kevin Feige, the primary creator and producer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise since 2017, is an executive producer on Marvel Studios: Legends.

WandaVision – January 15th

WandaVision is a miniseries created for Disney+ by Jac Schaeffer, based on the Marvel Comics characters Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch and Vision. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. The series takes place after the events of the film Avengers: Endgame (2019). WandaVision was produced by Marvel Studios, with Schaeffer serving as head writer and Matt Shakman directing.

The series first episode premieres on January 15th and will consist of six episodes and is the first installment in Phase Four of the MCU. The series will also feature some favorite side characters from past Marvel films including Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) from Thor, Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) from Ant-Man and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) from Captain Marvel.

The Falcon And The Winter Soldier – March 19th

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a miniseries created for Disney+ by Malcolm Spellman, based on the Marvel Comics characters Sam Wilson / Falcon and Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. The events of the series take place after the film Avengers: Endgame (2019). The series is produced by Marvel Studios, with Spellman serving as head writer and Kari Skogland directing.

Much like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a part of Phase Four of Marvel and will consist of six episodes premiering on March 19th.

Loki – May (2021)

Loki is a miniseries created for Disney+ by Michael Waldron, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. The series takes place after the events of the film Avengers: Endgame(2019), in which an alternate version of Loki created a new timeline. Loki is produced by Marvel Studios, with Waldron serving as head writer and Kate Herron directing.

Loki is also part of Phase Four and will be six series. Seems to be a trend! The series will premiere sometime in May of this year.

What If…? – Summer (2021)

What If…? is an anthology series created for Disney+ by A.C. Bradley, based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name. It explores what would happen if major moments from the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) occurred differently. The series is produced by Marvel Studios, their first animated series since becoming their own production company. Bradley serves as head writer of the series, with Bryan Andrews directing.

The series will consist of 10-episodes and explores what would happen if major moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe occurred differently. The series is expected to premiere sometime this summer.

Ms. Marvel – Late 2021

Ms. Marvel is a series created for Disney+ by Bisha K. Ali, based on the Marvel Comics character Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. The series is produced by Marvel Studios, with Ali serving as head writer.

It is unconfirmed but the series is also expected to be six episodes and will premiere late this year after a previous release date of 2022.

Hawkeye – Late 2021

Hawkeye is a series created for Disney+ by Jonathan Igla, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. The series takes place after the events of the film Avengers: Endgame(2019). Hawkeye is produced by Marvel Studios, with Igla serving as head writer, and Rhys Thomas and Bert & Bertie each directing a block of episodes.

With Jeremy Renner reprising his role, he will be joined by Hailee Steinfeld casted as Hawkeye’s mentee who is set to take over as Hawkeye. It is expected to run six to eight episodes and premieres in late 2021.

Disney+ has clearly seen the success of television series with shows like The Mandalorian from the Star Wars universe and is looking to replicate the success with a string of highly anticipated Marvel series. Which series are you most excited about?

Additional films from Marvel including Black Widow (May 7th), Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings (July 9th) and Eternals (November 5th) will be released cinematically and certainly will hit Disney+ at some point down the road.
