The Emperor’s New Groove is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary today. In fact, if there was ever a mascot for 2020, it would be Kuzco. In other words, with his constant “No Touchy” he is absolutely perfect for this year.
The Emperor’s New Groove is Disney’s 40th animated feature. It was produced by Randy Fullmer and directed by Mark Dindal over a six year timeline. It stars David Spade (as Kuzco), John Goodman (as Pacha), Eartha Kitt (as Yzma), and Patrick Warburton (as Kronk).
Kuzco is a self centered teen emperor of the Incan empire. His right hand man is his advisor Yzma. For example. one day, he summons the head of a nearby village that he’s got his eye on. Pacha comes to the palace to learn that Kuzco is building himself a summer home there. Pacha tries to object, but is dismissed. At the same time, Yzma is fired for trying to run the Kingdom while Kuzco is preoccupied. Now, a furious Yzma and her sidekick, Kronk, make plans to poison Kuzco.
During their farewell dinner, Kuzco drinks the “poison”. But they soon realize that he was not in fact poisoned, but turned into a llama instead.
Yzma orders Kronk to knock out Kuzco and get rid of him. All things considered, Kronk does, complete with his own background music. Through a slew of events only Kronk, and Disney can come up with, Kuzco ends up at Pacha’s. All of a sudden, Pacha must help Kuzco get back to his palace, find the antidote, and defeat Yzma.
In other words, if you haven’t watched it yet, now is the perfect time. Happy 20th anniversary to Kuzco and the gang. And in the words of the emperor, “No touchy!”
