Margot Robbie will star in an upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean film. Robbie will be joined by Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson who will write for the film. This project is separate from the already announced franchise reboot headed by Pirates writer Ted Elliott and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin. Jerry Bruckheimer, who has produced all five of the Pirates films will produce the next two films in the series.
The project is in early development, but will be a new original story with and will introduce new characters within the Pirates universe. No plot details have been released.
The Pirates films are inspired by the ride Pirates of the Caribbean located in multiple Disney theme parks. Variations of the ride are located in Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris. There is even an attraction in Shanghai Disneyland Park entitled Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure that is based on the film’s characters.
As for the next installment in the franchise, the series newest star already has an extensive resume. Robbie previously starred in Bombshell, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood, and even worked with Hodson in Birds of Prey. It will be interesting to see how the writers implement new characters and plot into the already beloved story line.
