Aloha and Happy 6/26! Or as Disney fans like to call it- Stitch Day.
Stitch first made his appearance back in the 2002 film Lilo & Stitch. He was the result of an illegal Experiment 626 conducted by galactic evil genius Dr. Jumba Jookiba. Both were captured by the United Galactic Federation and tried for their illegal activity. The Federation viewed 626 as a threat because Jumba designed him with the instinct to destroy anything he touches. 626 was sentenced to like imprisonment on an asteroid, but while in-route, he stole a police cruiser and crash-landed Kaua’i, Hawaii.
To avoid being recaptured, 626 disguises himself by retracting his alien antennas and set of arms. He eventually gets adopted by Lilo Pelekai as a pet dog. Lilo gives him the name we all know and love today- Stitch. While living with Lilo, Stitch learned to be good and to understand the meaning of Ohana.
The original film proved successful for Walt Disney Studios meaning fans wanted more from Stitch and his new found family. Walt Disney Studios released three films including Stitch! The Movie (2003), Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch (2005), and Leroy & Stitch (2006), along with Lilo & Stitch: The Series (2003-2006). All of these films and the television show can be watched for free with a Disney+ subscription!
Stitch has also been a prominent feature in the Parks. He’s a busy guy when it comes to character meet and greets, parades, and shows throughout all of Disney’s many Parks and Resorts. There was even an attraction entitled Stitch’s Great Escape in Orlando’s Magic Kingdom. Stitch merchandise can also be found practically anywhere. From hats, shirts, plush, bags, towels and more, there’s something for everyone. Even with parks closed, there’s no shortage of Stitch themed memorabilia.
