We are just learning late today that Disney’s Bob Iger is stepping down as Disney’s Chief Executive Officer effective immediately. He is being replaced by Bob Chapek whom recently had the role as chairmen to Disney Parks, Products & Experiences since the year 2018.
This major transition in the Disney company is coming at a time when attendance has been skyrocketing and the company has been investing hundreds of millions into the parks and resorts. Quoting from the earnings call late Tuesday: “The succession plan, was not accelerated for any particular reason other than we thought the need was now to make this change,” Iger explained on the call.
“I am incredibly honored and humbled to assume the role of CEO of what I truly believe is the greatest company in the world, and to lead our exceptionally talented and dedicated cast members and employees,” Chapek explained.
Chapek followed saying “Bob Iger has built Disney into the most admired and successful media and entertainment company, and I have been lucky to enjoy a front-row seat as a member of his leadership team.”
This will be the seventh time a new CEO has held this position within the company and Iger is slated to remain Executive Chairmen through December 31st, 2021.
