Disney movie history will be made when the Jungle Cruise movie includes the company's first openly gay character. Actor and comedian Jack Whitehall will play the brother of Emily Blunt's character in the movie. The movie is set in the 19th century and stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Emily Blunt. Jack Whitehall who is a straight man, will play Blunt's brother who is described as "hugely effete, very campy and very funny and who is clearly not interested in the female gender".
The movie is set to release in 2019. Disney plans to make a franchise out of the Jungle Cruise movie, as it did with the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
Some people on social media are upset that a straight man is playing a gay character but the actor is excited for his new role and that he will be making Disney history. Others on social media have argued that Le Fou in the live action Beauty and the Beast movie was openly gay, however Disney never wrote it into the script as obivous and never admitted he was.
We are very excited that Disney has made history with this decision and can't wait to see the final product which is the Jungle Cruise movie!
I am a Disney lover and avid park goer. I’m a Mom, grandma and former teacher that is a child at heart. I love the Disney parks and love to visit a few times a week so I can bring people the latest news! I am very honest when I write about my many experiences!
